People have imagined going to the Moon for thousands of years.
It was not until 1687 that Isaac Newton discovered the laws of motion and gravity that we began to understand space and how to get there. He showed that moving things will continue to move unless a force slows it down and that forces do not act by themselves. This law allows rockets to leave Earth for space.
