Senior Curator - Space Foundation Discovery Center
Rachel English is the Senior Curator of Space Foundation Discovery Center, an interactive museum and science center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. As Space Foundation Discovery Center Senior Curator, Rachel is responsible for directing the Discovery Center’s staff and volunteer corps in developing and facilitating the center’s exhibits, field trips, public programming, and laboratory experiences designed for teachers, students and space museum guests.
For nearly five years prior to this role, English was Curator/Registrar for Space Foundation, responsible for the display, documentation and preservation of the organization’s collection of historic space artifacts. develops and maintains exhibitions, while working to collect, preserve and document objects in the museum collection.
Rachel believes every person has the right to see themselves represented in their cultural institutions. Her 10 years of work in the museum field, and as a co-founder of Out Astronaut Project, a scholarship program for LGBTQ scientists who wish to train to become astronauts, shows her commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
Born and raised in Colorado Springs, English received a certificate of recognition from the City for her work during the Black Forest Fire in 2013 and was also recognized as a “Rising Star” by the Colorado Springs Business Journal in 2020.
Rachel holds a bachelor’s degree in history from Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas, and a master’s degree in museum studies from the University of Leicester in Leicester, England.
