Space Foundation Discovery Center Announces Events for an Awesome April

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — March 30, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit advocate organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Foundation Discovery Center will host a series of events for April. The events will provide an opportunity for the whole family to engage and learn more about the wonders of space in a fun and safe learning environment.

Event: Small Steps, Giant Leap: Rockets (for ages 2-5 years)
Date: Tuesday, April 4
Time: 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: No fee
Activities:

  • Reading of Sadie Sprocket Builds a Rocket by Sue Fliess
  • Guided Science on a Sphere® presentation
  • Name rocket cutout activity

Event: Homeschool Day: Astronomy
Date: Wednesday, April 5
Time: 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: General Admission plus $5 activity fee. Passport members receive complimentary admission.
Activities:

  • Learn how studying the universe teaches us all the sciences: chemistry, physics, biology and more.
  • Guided Science on a Sphere® presentation
  • Morning workshop: Guest speaker Dave Warner, Director of Education for Colorado Springs Astronomical Society and NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador; Afternoon workshop: Spectroscopes
  • Self-guided activities include stellarium and star life cycle beads

Event: Tesla’s Toolbox: Household Chemistry (for ages 7-14 years)
Date: Saturday, April 8
Time: Workshops at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: General Admission plus $5 activity fee. Passport members receive complimentary admission.
Activities:

  • Learn how to do chemistry in your kitchen with items such as cabbage, vinegar and baking soda
  • Take home your chemistry experiment after the workshop

Event: Cool Science: Aerodynamics
Date: Saturday, April 8
Time: 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: Regular admission

  • Learn how to build several amazing paper airplanes with different designs, including the world record holder for the longest distance

Event: Family Star Party: Searching for Alien Worlds
Date: Friday, April 28
Time: 8:00-10:00 p.m.

Admission:  No fee for outdoor telescope viewing; half-priced admission for Discovery Center indoor activities.
Activities:

  • Look through multiple telescopes and learn about the objects in our night sky from Colorado Springs Astronomical Society astronomy outreach guides and Discovery Center educators
  • Interact with the Mobile Earth + Space Observatory’s scientific demos and exhibits
  • Possible views of Venus, Mars and the first quarter moon
  • Engage with self-guided activities and Science On a Sphere® presentations in the Discovery Center
