Space Foundation Discovery Center To Host Family Star Party Dec. 17

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Dec. 13, 2021 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit advocate organization founded in 1983 for the global space ecosystem, today announced that Space Foundation Discovery Center will host a Family Star Party on Friday, Dec. 17, at 5:30-7:30 p.m. The party will offer an opportunity to view Comet Leonard, and NORAD Tracks Santa will be on-site to share how NORAD has tracked Santa on Christmas Eve for the past 65 years.

Date: Friday, Dec. 17, 2021; 5:30-7:30 p.m. MST

Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs

Admission:

No fee for outdoor telescope viewing; half-price admission for Discovery Center indoor activities

Outside (weather permitting)

  • Viewing Comet Leonard through telescopes
  • Planet viewing (Jupiter, Saturn, Venus)
  • Viewing the near-full Moon
    Enjoying the Mobile Earth + Space Observatory (MESO) and its 12″ telescope
  • Expert telescope support provided by members of the Colorado Springs Astronomical Society
  • Hot cocoa and cookies

This event creates a fun learning environment to inspire the next generation of astronomy enthusiasts. MESO is a “science center on wheels,” allowing the public to experience authentic science firsthand and engaging young people with STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) topics.
