Sneak Peek: Space Foundation’s July 20 Apollo 11 Celebration
On Saturday, July 20, the Space Foundation Discovery Center in Colorado Springs is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing with a full day of activities, presentations, tours and a special visit from former NASA astronaut Duane “Digger” Carey.
We’ll have both indoor and outdoor activities tomorrow, and cool treats from Kona Ice and The Ice Cream Lab to help beat the heat.
Enjoy outdoor fun, such as the astronaut obstacle course, science demo station, telescope viewing and Estes Rocket displays, then come inside for these activities, exhibits and more throughout the day, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.:
Virtual Reality — experience the Apollo 11 mission as though you were there!
Ozobot and Merge Cube — STEM activities to learn basic coding with robots and interact with virtual objects!
Indoor Rocket Garden — see models of the past, present and future vehicles that take humans beyond Earth!
Video Memory Booth — where were you when Neil Armstrong stepped onto the Moon? Share your memories with future generations; be a part of our Moon memory video.
Launch to the Moon — learn the history of the space race leading up to the Apollo 11 mission.
Mars Robotics Laboratory — look ahead to future adventures on Mars! Try your hand at maneuvering rovers on a simulated Martian terrain.
Thanks to premier sponsor Raytheon, the first 25 military families will be granted free admission to the celebration on July 20. Proper I.D. is required, and free admission is limited to four family members.
