Scholarships Fund Space Across the Curriculum Teacher Professional Development at Space Foundation Discovery Center
Today, the Space Foundation’s annual week-long Space Across Curriculum educator professional development program started at its Discovery Center in Colorado Springs.
The theme for the training is “Mission to Mars,” and is funded by two scholarships that cover participation by 26 teachers representing 16 U.S. states.
The “Mission to Mars” program will provide the teachers with hands-on activities to use in their classrooms, such as for lessons in aerodynamic concepts, project management, basic engineering principles, coding, programming, robotics, geological evidence from satellite images and biological effects on humans in space.
Dr. Rochelle Abrams Space Across the Curriculum Educator Training Scholarship and Congressional Space Policy Education Program
The goal of this scholarship fund is to help to build a future workforce of space professionals, as well as helping to educate policy makers about the need to support teachers as they train the future workforce.
The scholarship also funds the curriculum and supplies for these hands-on activities that focus on developing 21st Century skills for teachers to use in their classrooms, as well as materials and strategies for teachers to use when returning to their schools to share with their colleagues.
Attending the “Mission to Mars” training are the 22 teachers who were awarded the Abrams Scholarship for 2019.
Warrell Family Scholarship
This scholarship fund is covering participation by four Colorado Springs-area teachers in the Space Across the Curriculum “Mission to Mars” training this summer. Each scholarship includes tuition and a stipend for participating.
