Introducing young people to exciting career opportunities in STEM fields helps ignite their interest in studying those subjects in school
Introducing young people to exciting career opportunities in STEM fields helps ignite their interest in studying those subjects in school. The Space Foundation, based in Colorado, uses space themes as a way to interest students in learning more about science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). It also provides professional development programs for teachers to help them introduce hands-on STEM activities into their classrooms.
Petit Family Foundation, based in Connecticut, provides funding for a variety of programs, including those that foster the education of young people, especially girls and women in the sciences.
Together, the Petit Family Foundation and the Space Foundation will host a free Soar to the Stars Girls STEM Experience at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford the morning of Saturday, Oct. 27. Girls age 12 to 18 years will be invited to participate in the following hands-on activities, led by Space Foundation accredited and award-winning educators, all of whom are former classroom master teachers:
- Rocket Engineering
- Robotics Coding
- Design Lab
- LIDAR Surface Mapping
The Girls STEM Experience will also include an inspiring panel discussion by women who have excelled in careers in science, aerospace and other STEM fields.
The Girls STEM Experience will be followed that evening by the Soar to the Stars Gala, held at the Connecticut Convention Center and hosted by the Petit Family Foundation and the Space Foundation to support Space Foundation STEM education programs in the eastern United States.
