Space Foundation Discovery Center Announces Newest Exhibit Provided by Boecore

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Oct. 4, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that Space Foundation Discovery Center opened its newest exhibit provided by Boecore LLC on Saturday, Sept. 30. Keplera is a gamified trainer that applies gaming best practices to give visitors insight into conducting operations in space and building intuition around astrodynamics concepts through hands-on and visual gameplay.

Keplera provides an engaging user experience for players interested in learning about satellites, orbits and maneuvering in the vacuum of space, all of which are governed by Kepler’s Laws of Planetary Motion. Players are challenged to demonstrate their understanding of learning objectives, space director’s guidance, and space asset management as they work to beat the clock in a variety of space-based scenarios. Players can run through multiple scenarios quickly and watch each play out in a 3D graphical environment that puts their space understanding to the test, all while viewing their scores and climbing the leaderboard.

Keplera is based on the same gamified trainer provided by Boecore to U.S. Space Force Guardians to accomplish Space Command and Control operations locally in Colorado Springs, giving students experience with real-world situations and analysis tools.

Commenting on Keplera, Space Foundation Discovery Center Director Rachel English said, “We are truly honored to receive this generous exhibit donation from Boecore, which will enrich the educational experience for our visitors. It not only enhances our ability to inspire curiosity about space exploration but also underscores the importance of partnerships in advancing STEM education.”

As the space capital of the U.S. and home of U.S. Space Command, Colorado Springs is propelled by organizations like Space Foundation, which Boecore is committed to supporting through collaborative efforts like the Keplera exhibit.

“Industry stands behind the continuing efforts of Space Foundation to make the Springs a STEM epicenter by attracting and educating our next generation of Space Guardians who will use trainers like Keplera to prepare for careers supporting the space mission in our own backyard,” offered Boecore Vice President of Innovation Patty Bonvallet. “Boecore believes in giving back to the community and pursuing innovation that matters; there is nothing more rewarding than having the Keplera game in the hands of students, educators and parents to help build industry’s pipeline of space experts. It is our pleasure to extend what we have internally developed through IR&D and share it with our community, advancing the collaborative spirit that exists between industry and community-focused organizations like Space Foundation.”
