Join Space Foundation Discovery Center for a Marvelous March

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Feb. 23, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983 for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Foundation Discovery Center will host a series of events for March. The events will provide a family-friendly way to learn about the wonders of space in a fun and safe learning environment.

Event: Homeschool Day: Be an Astronaut: Train for Life in Space
Date: Wednesday, March 1
Time: 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: General Admission plus $5 materials fee. Passport members receive complimentary admission.
Activities:
• Science On a Sphere® presentations
• Featuring guest speaker Karolyn Evans, NASA Solar System Ambassador; Principal Aerospace Engineer for Ball Aerospace
• Morning workshop: Moon Colony Kit; Afternoon Workshop: Barany Chair Self-guided activities include Neutral Buoyancy Challenge and Mission Patch

Event: Small Steps, Giant Leap: Stars and Constellations (for ages 2-5 years)
Date: Tuesday, March 7
Time: 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: No fee
Activities:
•Reading of Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed
•Guided Science on a Sphere® presentation
•Sticker Star Constellation Activity

Event: Tesla’s Toolbox: Fluid Dynamics (for ages 7-14 years)
Date: Saturday, March 11
Time: Workshops at 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 2:00-3:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: General Admission plus $5 materials fee. Passport members receive complimentary admission.
Activities:
•Learn the concepts of laminar flow and turbulent flow demos with balloons, water and dry ice
•Bring home DIY fluid dynamics experiment in a bottle

Event: Cool Science: Kinetic and Potential Engineering
Date: Saturday, March 18
Time: 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: Regular Admission

•Design and build structures packed with potential energy then watch them explode with kinetic energy

Event: Discovery Center Astronomy Club (for ages 15-18 years)
Date: Friday, March 24
Time: 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: No fee

•Guest speaker to talk about the path towards a STEM career
•Continue work on club project

Event: Family Star Party: Peering Back into Time
Date: Friday, March 24
Time: 7:30-9:30 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: Free outdoor telescope viewing; half price admission for Discovery Center indoor activities. Passport Members receive complementary admission.
Activities:
•Look through multiple telescopes and learn about the objects in our night sky from Colorado Springs Astronomical Society astronomy outreach guides and Discovery Center educators
•Interact with the Mobile Earth + Space Observatory’s scientific demos and exhibits.
•Possible views of Venus, the Crescent Moon, and the Orion Nebula
•Engage with self-guided activities and Science on a Sphere® presentations in the Discovery Center

Event: Explore Space Experience: Spring Break Adventures
Date: Monday, March 27-Friday, March 31
Time: 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.
Venue: Space Foundation Discovery Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: $325 per student
Activities:
•Two Explore Space Experiences will be offered with challenges appropriate for each age group (6-8 and 9-12 years). Some activities will be done with both groups together, while others will be separate.
