Homeschool Days in a Galaxy Far Away, Space Technology Tracking Jolly St. Nick and more at the Space Foundation Discovery Center this December

COLORADO SPRINGSColo. (Dec. 5, 2017) – The Space Foundation Discovery Center is hosting several events to wrap up 2017 that are interactive, educational and of course, fun. Before the Space Foundation offices and Discovery Center close for the holidays (Dec. 19 – Jan. 1), families will find the following things to do at the Discovery Center in Colorado Springs:                        

Wednesday, Dec. 6: Homeschool Days
Not all aspects of Star Wars are science fiction. Today, inventors, scientists and engineers are making the stories told in a galaxy far, far away a reality. Learn about the technologies inspired by this classic space opera, and how Star Wars is making life on Earth better.

  • Crafts and more

Don’t forget to dress as your favorite StarWars character

Saturday, Dec. 9: NORAD Tracks Santa Visit
A team from NORAD will be on location, demonstrating how they use four high-tech systems to track Santa – radar, satellites, Santa Cams and fighter jet aircraft. Not only do these systems utilize a variety of space technology, but the tradition of tracking Santa’s progress itself inspires children around the world to think about how space technology and exploration play an increasingly important role in our daily lives. NORAD Tracks Santa is a Space Certified Technology.

Saturday, Dec. 16: Tesla’s Toolbox AND A Far Away Galaxy

Holograms seem like a thing of the future. But, you can make one today! Come and discover how to make a simple hologram display using inexpensive materials and your smartphone or tablet!

Saturday, Dec. 16: Special Can’t Miss Saturday: A Far Away Galaxy
The force is strong as we celebrate everyone’s favorite space opera. Join us the Saturday after the release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, for a day of spoiler-free Star Wars fun at the Discovery Center as we celebrate a Far Away Galaxy. Activities include:

  • Costumed Star Wars characters
  • Out of this world crafts and games
  • Wookiee Cookie decorating
  • Jedi training

Don’t forget to dress as your favorite StarWars character.

Enjoy a discount on admission to the Space Foundation Discovery Center in Colorado Springs from Nov. 21 through Dec. 13 with your donation of one unexpired canned or non-perishable food item (per person, per day). All donated items will be delivered to Care and Share Food Bank of Southern Colorado. No additional discounts available for Homeschool Day.
