Event Details:

Join us as we aim our telescopes at some of the most wonderful wonders in our night sky.

This month – we are focused on the Messier Calalogue.

What is the Messier Catalogue? Excellent question – The Messier objects are a set of 110 astronomical objects catalogued by the French astronomer Charles Messier in his Catalogue des Nébuleuses et des Amas d’Étoiles. Because Messier was only interested in finding comets, he created a list of those non-comet objects that frustrated his hunt for them.

Night Sky Viewing Outside: (weather permitting):

  • See Messier Catalog objects
  • Orion Nebula
  • Enjoy the Mobile Earth & Space Observatory (MESO)
  • Telescope support provided by members of Colorado Springs Astronomical Society

  • Science on a Sphere: Messier Catalog

*MESO – the Mobile Earth & Space Observatory with their 12″ telescope and space-themed exhibit.
