Space Foundation Discovery Center Kicks Off ‘Summer of Discovery’ With 5K Fun Run Through the Solar System, June 2
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — June 1, 2021 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit advocate organization founded in 1983 for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Foundation Discovery Center has partnered with Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center to host a 5K Fun Run Through the Solar System, promoting both active lifestyles and community interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) subject matter. The event will be part of the kickoff of its Summer of Discovery program Science of Sport.

Date: Thursday, June 3, 2021; 4-6 p.m. MT
Venue: Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center, Colorado Springs
Admission: Free

This noncompetitive, space-themed run/jog/walk will be complemented by interstellar race photos, fun giveaways, and customized medals for participants while supplies last. Participants should sign in at the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center to receive 50%-off admission to Space Foundation Discovery Center’s Summer of Discovery Kickoff block party happening from 5-8 p.m. MT that same evening.
The 5K Fun Run begins with a meet-up in the lower lobby of the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center at 1805 N. 30th St. in Colorado Springs, where check-in credentials will be distributed to participants after signing liability waivers. Masks are only required inside the visitor center. Capacity for the event is unlimited. Children are welcome, and one designated stroller route will be available. Dogs are also welcome on leashes; please bring baggies to pick up after them. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather, and there will be no bag check-in, so participants should plan accordingly.
