Unleash Your Creativity and Inner Engineer This March at the Discovery Center
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Feb. 24, 2017) – This March, the Space Foundation Discovery Center will offer several events for the young and young-at-heart to engage their creativity and engineering skills.
Space Foundation Vice President Bryan DeBates explained the value of tinkering and why a month’s worth of activities at the Discovery Center are dedicated to this theme.
“The Space Foundation’s mission, at its core, is to inspire, enable and propel humanity. Tinkering, allowing individuals to create something from scratch to solve a problem and then to actually build that product, fits that mission,” said DeBates. “Tinkering gives people the opportunity to flex their creative muscle and build exactly what they dreamed up in their mind. For the entire month of March, we will be providing opportunities for people of all ages to come in and Tinker and have fun. It’s going to be a blast!”
March Tinkering Events at the Discovery Center are available on a drop-in basis from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.*
Wednesday, March 1 – Homeschool Days: There is an inventor in you! Use everyday items to make amazing things this Homeschool Day. Half price admission throughout the day.
Saturday, March 4 – Star Days: On our monthly Star Days we feature family-friendly educational activities for all ages. These activities will get your creativity flowing as you use your brain to solve problems and find out how things work.
Saturday, March 25 – MAKE IT to Mars: New exhibit grand opening! Explore the challenges of getting to the red planet with this special exhibit. It’s a hands-on adventure as we build some of the devices that might be needed to explore Mars. You’ll be making spacesuits, rocket ships, solar sails and landers out of recycled and found materials to see if you can be a real Martian engineer.
Tuesday, March 28 through Saturday, April 1 – Spring Break Tinkering: Spend Spring Break exploring science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) in a week filled with “tinkering” activities. Come for one day, or for all the activities Tuesday through Saturday. Special guests from KCME classical music radio will be here Tuesday, March 28, and Thursday, March 30.
*Activities are subject to change, and parents/guardian must accompany children.
