Space Foundation Partners with Lt. Governor Primavera to Offer Free Webisode Instruction for Colorado Educators

DENVER, Colo. (June. 30, 2020) – Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera is partnering with the Space Foundation to provide 10 free instructional webisodes to Colorado educators this summer. The innovative curriculum developed by the Space Foundation education team utilizes Immersive Education, which puts students in real-world scenarios where they can see the connection to real-world jobs. This promotes lifelong learning and interest in STEAM careers (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). It also helps grow a community’s organic workforce and strengthen economic development.

“Aerospace will continue to play an important role in Colorado’s economy as we work together to bounce back stronger than before the COVID-19 pandemic. This curriculum will help Colorado’s educators inspire excitement in the next generation of young students in STEAM and encourage them to look to the stars as they pursue educational studies and future careers in aerospace,” said Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera. “These webisodes are especially helpful for teachers and educators preparing to engage students in virtual classrooms.”

The new webisodes were developed as part of the Space Foundation’s Auxilia program, which is Latin for “helping hands” — so named because the Space Foundation is sharing its helping hands, as well as its educators’ talents, experiences, and insights to inspire the next generation of explorers, entrepreneurs, and innovators.

The webisodes are available now and can be accessed at: https://discoverspace.org/education/for-educators/e-learning-tools/.

One of the webisodes will feature the Space Foundation’s Audience with an Astronaut® program with an inspiring presentation by former NASA astronaut Lt. Col. Duane Carey, USAF (Ret.).

The content will provide e-learning tools for educators, resources that can be used in virtual instruction for all ages, as well as hands-on, immersive, and cross-curricular lesson plans. Content will be delivered on an easy-access, non-account web-based platform, with all 10 webisodes being made available on June 30, 2020.

“The Space Foundation’s education programs have garnered national and international recognition and awards, with its formal education team boasting six former classroom master teachers who conduct the Space Foundation’s global education outreach programs,” said Audra Peck, Space Foundation Senior Director – Center for Innovation and Education.

Additionally, the webisode content focuses on the Colorado Academic Standards in science and was developed in consultation with the Colorado Department of Education’s Office of Standards and Instructional Support.

The Space Foundation has been conducting teacher professional development workshops for decades. Tens of thousands of teachers have participated in the program since then, impacting hundreds of thousands of students around the globe.

These efforts, and newly released webisodes are part of the Space Foundation’s newly created Center for Innovation and Education to drive workforce development and economic opportunity so every generation can find their place in the space economy.
