Space Foundation Discovery Center Announces February and March Events
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Feb.12, 2024 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Foundation Discovery Center will host a series of events in the community during February and March. The events will provide an opportunity for the whole family to engage and learn more about the wonders of space in a fun and safe learning environment.
Event: Homeschool Days: Rocketry and Aeronautics
Date: Wednesday, Feb. 14
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Venue: 21c Library, Conference Room, 1175 Chapel Hills Dr, Colorado Springs
Admission: No fee
Activities:
• Guided activities: Pitsco rockets and hoop gliders
• Take-home activities: Straw rockets, whirlygigs and cardstock gliders

Event: Discovery Center Astronomy Club: Welcome to the Club! (for ages 15-18 years)
Date: Friday, Feb. 16
Time: 5:30-7 p.m.

• Learn about various topics from astronomy research to telescope mechanics to potential career paths.
• Food and drinks provided.

Event: Audience With an Astronaut: What’s It Like To Live in Space? (virtual)
Date: Monday, Feb. 26
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Admission: No fee
Activities:
• Students will explore the challenges of long-term space habitation, including medical and mental health issues, with a focus on future solutions needed for extended space travel such as missions to Mars.

Event: Small Steps, Giant Leap: Mae Among the Stars
Date: Tuesday, March 5
Time: 9:30-10:30 a.m.
Venue: Hillside Community Center, Program B Room, 925 S. Institute, Colorado Springs
Admission: No fee
Activities:
• Hear an interactive storytelling of the book “Mae Among the Stars.”
• Following story time, join us for a space-themed craft for your little one.

• Take-home activities: Create an Apollo lander

Event: Audience With an Astronaut: Future of Solar Weather (virtual)
Date: Monday, March 19
Time: 10-11 a.m.
Admission: No fee
Activities:
• Students will explore space weather, including its formation and impact on Earth, such as Northern Lights and eclipses. We’ll focus on preparing for the upcoming total eclipse in April and discuss STEM careers essential for understanding and mitigating solar weather effects.
