Make the Impossible Possible at the Space Foundation Discovery Center July 16 and July 23

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 12, 2016) – From solving problems, designing rockets and spacesuits, to providing critical mission control support, space travel would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of engineers.

This summer, the Space Foundation Discovery Center is celebrating the Heroes of Space, Visionaries, Scientists, Engineers and Astronauts, each with its own two-week theme. The third theme of the summer, “Engineers,” begins this Saturday, July 16.

Each Saturday, there will be extra hands-on activities and special presentations to inspire the entire family. This Super Saturday, join us from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for these activities, included in the price of Discovery Center admission*:

  • a Mad Science demonstration
  • special Science On a Sphere® presentation
  • Green screen photo opportunities
  • guest speaker Space Foundation Volunteer and former NASA engineer, Lou Ramon, who will share his first-hand experience of the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing at 11:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
  • Virtual Reality launch experience and meet and greet with the ULA Future Heavy Rocket intern team from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

The fun and educational experience will continue Saturday, July 23 with special guests, Tim and Rich Gravelin and their custom-built, lifesize, R2D2, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.*

The featured traveling exhibit for the summer is Super Kids Save the World, presented by Children’s Hospital Colorado and hosted locally by Pikes Peak Children’s Museum. This interactive exhibit is designed for children ages two through 10 years, and helps them learn that by taking simple steps in their daily lives, they can become eco-friendly superheroes in their own communities.
