Space Foundation Discovery Center Announces Second Annual Family Symposium

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — April 4, 2023 — Space Foundation, a nonprofit organization founded in 1983, offering information, education and collaboration for the global space ecosystem, today announced that its Space Foundation Discovery Center will host the second annual Family Symposium on Wednesday, April 19, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Family Symposium offers the opportunity for families around the Pikes Peak region to come together to engage with and learn from leading experts in science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM). Participants from within the community will be sharing their resources with Family Symposium attendees, making it a fantastic opportunity to interact with the people and organizations making a difference in Colorado Springs and beyond.

“We are inviting the entire Colorado Springs community to Space Foundation Discovery Center for an unforgettable STEAM experience that is sure to be out of this world,” said Rachel English, director of Space Foundation Discovery Center. “From interactive demonstrations to hands-on science experiments, families will be able to engage with local space professionals to explore the wonders of the universe from their own backyard. Family Symposium has the opportunity to foster a new level of curiosity and creativity in our community.”

The event will feature two former NASA astronauts, Livingston Holder (Capt. USAF, Ret.) and Ron Garan (Col., USAF, Ret.), who will participate in a panel discussion and discuss their journeys to become astronauts, prior space missions, training, and how the upcoming generation can prepare for a future in space. Following the discussion, audience members will get the chance to ask panelists questions and receive signed autographs.
